Green Heart is a Partnership initiative between Arts Council England, East and the eleven local authorities of Hertfordshire that aims to achieve growth and capacity between the arts and environment sectors. GHP is an Arts Generate programme; Arts Council England, East's partnership scheme that works with the region's local authorities using creativity to address government priorities and as a cross county initiative is the first of its kind in the UK. GHP recognizes the role local government plays within growth and regeneration from the strategic future planning perspective through to delivery. Working with local government partners to understand their complex process, and at times politically sensitive position, GHP helps to develop a collaborative, creative-led, inter-disciplinary team process to achieve sustainable solutions. GHP facilitates creative collaborations exploring the physical and social aspects of open space in our society – driving forward an innovative approach to arts led regeneration. GHP is project managed by the Landscape+Arts Network Services (LANS) team from Gunpowder Park. Lee Valley Regional Park Authority is one of the supporting partners with Borough of Broxbourne, Dacorum Borough Council, East Herts Council, Hertfordshire County Council, Hertsmere Borough Council, North Hertfordshire District Council, St Albans City & District Council, Stevenage Borough Council, Three Rivers District Council, Watford Borough Council, Welwyn Hatfield Council. Central to the GHP approach is pairing the arts sector with the environment and regeneration sectors to explore how creative-led collaborations can assist in creating more engaging, appealing and environmentally sustainable communities. The successful working practice of cross-departmental teams is matched by the forming of new private / public sector partnerships, providing additional political, economic and social benefits.
